Wheat Allergy Treatment Choices

People tend to look all over the internet for the articles that they need. This one is just what you have been browsing for.

Some people are allergic to wheat. If you're one of them, then you may be wondering about the various wheat allergy treatment choices available to you. Anyone who suspects they are allergic to any substance should first see their physician to obtain a diagnosis and discuss various treatment options. It's important not to confuse wheat allergy with wheat intolerance. Wheat allergy induces often severe reactions that can include swelling, wheezing, anaphylactic shock and in rare cases, death. Wheat intolerance, on the other hand, is less severe and may feature symptoms like gastrointestinal distress and skin rash.

The best way to treat wheat allergy is to simply avoid wheat and products that contain it. Usually, it is the gluten in the wheat that causes symptoms. If this is the case for you, you will need to be vigilant about avoiding foods that contain gluten. This can be quite difficult because so many different foods contain it. Wheat germ, breads, cakes, cookies and crackers are all examples of food items that may be problematic. If at all possible, you'll want to find a substitute for wheat such as soy, corn, or rice.

Many people who suffer from wheat allergy not only consult with their doctor, but also a nutritionist. A nutritionist can help you create a customized diet plan that best meets your needs. If you do accidentally ingest wheat and experience symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately. If your symptoms are severe, dial 911 for emergency medical assistance. For symptoms that are uncomfortable but not life-threatening, you may be able to use an over the counter remedy such as an antihistamine. However, before using anything to treat yourself, get your doctor's advice first.

Wheat allergy treatment, just like any other food allergy, is best accomplished by avoiding the offending food. This means you will need to read food labels and educate yourself about foods that contain gluten and what alternatives are available for you. You don't have to give up all your favorite foods, but you may need to find them made with ingredients that do not include gluten. Many people with food allergies choose to cook for themselves rather than dining out or buying prepackaged foods so they can best control what they consume and what they do not.

Today's Tip On Allergies

If a person is wondering if they are allergic to food, they need to first look at their family history. More than likely, if a person's parents have allergies, the individual will experience some form of allergic reaction. Allergies and other things are hereditary and can cause an individual to have to alter their life in order to deal with the allergy. Another way that people can develop an allergic reaction to food is in the early years of infancy and toddler hood. If a person is allergic to food, then this may be the prime time when the allergy will rear its ugly head.
